Basically the word “Kiriburu” is derived from the tribal language of Jharkhand “HO” which means the hills of elephants. The word ‘Kiri’ – means elephant and “Buru” means hills.

The Zig-Zag roads to the twin hills covered by tall, dense Sal trees of Serenda forest gives a fantastic glimpse of serene beauty. The word Serenda means ” The lands of Seven hundred hills”. The top of Kiriburu hill is situated 4300 feet above the sea level, & gives an amazing and mesmerizing view from the top of this hill gives a feeling of  soothing, refreshing and vitality. Saranda is Asia’s largest Sal Forest is the home of endangered flying lizard. Besides the flora and fauna that are thrilling and colourful it is also renowned for its majestic salt trees.

How to reach Kiriburu hill station?

Kiriburu is approximately 295 & 240 kilometers away from Odisha & jharkhand respectively. There are various modes of transportation like train, bus and car, by which you can reach here.

By Air:

The two nearest airports to Kiriburu are Bhubaneswar Airport (BBI) and Ranchi Airport (IXR).
Ranchi Airport (IXR), Ranchi, Jharkhand. 142 km away.
Bhubaneswar Airport (BBI), Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. 212 Km away.

By Railways:

The nearest railway station to Kiriburu is Bara Jamda (BJMD), in jharkhand or Barbil (BBN) in odisha.
It has connectivity via the Janshatabdi Express from Howrah station.

By Bus:

Kiriburu’s bus station is also well connected to bolani. There are also many bus to & fro bhubaneswar via joda.

Where to stay in Kiriburu?

Barbil is just a few kilometers away from both Kiriburu and Meghataburu (approx. 20 km). Many hotels can also be found with competitive price ranges. There are many places that have a comfortable, luxurious, and spacious stay for you. You also have options, such as private accommodation and guesthouses, if you wish to stay in Kiriburu. There is SAIL’s Guest House, which is well maintained and well appointed and offers clean accommodation.

Also there is almost no network coverage in kiriburu, therefore its better to stay in barbil and have a day tour to kiriburu and meghataburu.

When To Visit

The best time to visit these hills is from July to December, as the atmosphere is lovely for a happy stay.

Summer varies between March and June, with temperatures varying from 30° to 40° Celsius. April and May are the hottest months.

The rainy season begins in July and lasts until August, with an average rainfall of 200-350 millimeters.

Since the hill station is located above 4000ft. is always covered with clouds. The temperature in the month of December to February falls down to almost 7° degree Celsius, making it particularly cold in December and January.

It is a fascinating experience to ride along the zigzag roads of Kiriburu and Meghataburu itself, but nature has its own treat. All you need is a stunning sunset after a tiring day. Go to the Sunset Point of Meghataburu and take in the view of the stunning sunset.

Some of the places famous here for travellers are Leopard cave, Pachauri waterfalls, and Jateshwar Lake.

Trip Cost for Kiriburu & Meghataburu

The approx trip cost for kiriburu would be ₹4000 to ₹5000. Note that there is only one petrol station therefore if you are on private vehicle do remember to fuel up in barbil before heading towards kiriburu.
