Daringbadi The Kashmir Of Odisha – Detail Guide & Itinenary

Daringbadi is a popular destination based in the Odisha district of Kandhamal. This is a part of the Eastern Ghat range surrounded by forests and hill station that includes a stunning scenic view.

Odisha is a fascinating place. This state is always associated with beaches on the sea and the ornate temples, but believe me it has a lot more to offer. I was completely awed by the Buddhist monastic ruins when I made a trip to the Diamond Triangle in Odisha or visited Raghurajpur, a small village.

Why visit Daringbadi

Beign surrounded by lush green hills of Phulbani, there are many reasons to visit Daringbadi. Beautifully surrounded by lush green hills, waterfalls, pine forest, coffee plantation and aborigine culture.

This place is still new to tourists so there are comparatively small foot steps of tourists. This place can be combined with a beautiful Gopalpur sea beach, so you can enjoy both the sea and the hills during a tour.

Best time to visit in Daringbadi

You can visit Daringbadi across the year.

If you want to experience rolling hills and pine forest with dramatic fog then when temperatures drop below freezing, winter is the best time at that moment.

If you want to enjoy beautiful nature’s vibrant colour, then monsoon is the right moment. If you are looking for beautiful nature’s vibrant colour, then monsoon is the right moment. At that time, the dense green forest is greener and the color of the red soil made the landscape more vivid.Summer is very hot and humid here. So it’s better to avoid this location during summer, i.e. April to May.

How to reach :

Note that there is no proper local transportation in Daringbadi. So tourists either take their own car or hire a vehicle to roam around Daringbadi.

By Road:

By road, there are basically 2 routes either from bhubaneswar which is about 246 km or from Berhampore’s local bus stand for Sorada at around 10.30/11am. Sorada arrives at 2 pm. Avail OSRTC bus from Sorada to Daringbadi at 3 pm. Around 5.30/6 pm you arrive around Daringbadi.

Or if you’ve have to cost a car about Rs 2500-3500 a day. So for Rs 1500 – 1800 (for a group of four) one can spend a day at Daringbadi. A descent AC lodging, healthy foods and all sightseeing in an AC car will be included in this budget. If you really are thinking about getting to Daringbari by car then you have to follow the route from Bhubaneswar- Berhampur- Kalinga ghati- Daringbadi.

By Rail:

The nearest railway station is Berhmapur(BAM) located 120km from from daringbadi, from here one have to take bus or hired car to reach Daringbari. You can take the route of Berhampur – Aska – Kalinga ghanti – Mandasuru – Daringbadi – Bramhanigaon – Berhampur

By Air:

The nearest airport is at Bhubaneswar Airport approx 250km and will have to take the same routefrom bhubaneswar.

AUTO is an economic preferred mode for local sightseeing. Depending on the season, they will charge ₹700-1000.

Bike rental service at Daringbadi :

At Daringbadi you can get a couple of bike rental facilities. One of them is situated opposite Mid Town Hotel. For a bike it’ll cost approx ₹800 – 1200. To rent a vehicle, you must show your driving licence.

Days required :

This place is ideal for a trip of 2nd night and 3 days. But if someone wishes, can spend more days.

At Phulbani :

Mandasaru Eco Cottage: A lovely property inside Mandasaru Eco Park. Self-help goup runs this cottage.

Dreamland Hotel: You can get Ac room from ₹500/-

At Taptapani :

Panthanivas of Odisha Tourism Development Corporation is the best place to stay at Taptapani. You can book that from their website.

At Gopalpur :

What to see :

Daringbadi is an perfect place to enjoy nature at its best. Lush green rolling hills, river, lake waterfalls, pine forest, coffee plantation, parks can be found here. Offbeat locations such as Ziranga, Khasada waterfall can be visited from Daringbari. For this trip you can visit other famous places like Taptapani, Gopalpur.

DAY 1,

From Berhampur to Mandasuru(Phulbani)

1. Vetnai :

A popular spot where you can see black buck in their natural habitat. For black bucks, that place is very common.

This village is home to more than thousands of blackbucks. Villagers also seek to guard against poachers. Don’t forget to bring your telephoto lens while visiting Vetnai.

2. Mandasuru Eco Tourism Centre :

Tickets: Entry Fees is ₹30.
Opening Timings: Open at all times.
Duration: No specific duration.

Mandasuru is a small isolated village, ideal for watching the sunrise.

3. Mandasaru waterfall :

Mandasaru Waterfall is situated only a few kilometers from the ecotourism hub of Mandasaru. For a distance view, you have to walk 300-400 meters from the main road, but if you want to get closer to the waterfall, you have to walk in the jungle at least 2 km down to get there. This forest is filled with wild animals. One can spot spotted owl, eagle, pea fowl easily.

Stay at Phulbani, for the night.

DAY 2,

From Mandasuru to Daringbadi  :

On this way you can pass the forest range Daringbadi udaygiri.

1. Lover’s Point :

This is ideally a Daringbadi picnic spot. Here a river flows over the cliffs. One can bath in here.The flowing river have formed a tiny lake.

2. Emu birds sanctuary/Breading Centre :

Tickets: Entry Fees is ₹10.
Opening Timings: All day till evening.
Duration: 30-40 mins.

This Center is basically a private property. They kept some species of emu here for breading purposes. One gets here to see some emu birds and eggs.

3. Hill view park :

Tickets: Entry fees is ₹10 & Parking Fees is ₹30.
Opening Timings: All day till evening.
Duration: 30-40 mins.

Daringbadi hill-view park is situated on the top of a hill. Inside the park are some rides for kids. There are two view towers on top, from which one gets the view of the Daringbadi Valley.

4. Nature park :

Opening Timings: All day till evening.
Duration: 1 to 1/2 hrs.

Located just adjacent to Hill View Park. Within, there is a garden of butterflies. In addition to the nature park there is also a pine forest, black pepper garden, and turmeric gardens.

5. Pine forest of Daringbadi :

A thick pine forest is located next to the coffee garden. Pay a visit to this place early in the morning, the time the place remains covered with dense fog.

6. Coffee garden and pepper garden :

Tickets: Entry fee ₹30
Opening Timings: All day till evening.
Duration: 30mins.

Located just 5 km from the town of Daringbadi. One gets to see here coffee plantation and Spices garden. From here one can buy coffee, pepper and other spices as well. Turmeric of Kandhamal has got the GI Tag for its unique vareity which are grown abundantly by local tribals.

DAY 3,

On the way from Daringbadi to Bramhapur  :

1. Khasada Waterfall :

Tickets: Parking fee ₹30
Opening Timings: All day till evening.
Duration: 30mins.

This waterfall is located in Kamalpur, in the Odisha district of Gajapati. A river flows through the rocky formation here, and that’s what made the waterfall. One can walk across the river and can bath in here. 😉

Mostly the locals come here for a picnic. There is a temple on the top of the surrounding hill, next to the waterfall. Many devotees come to this temple.

2. Jeerango :

Tickets: Entry fee ₹30
Opening Timings: All day till evening.
Duration: 1hrs.

This is a buddhist monastery settlement in Odisha. With the vibrant paintings all around, the four storied monastery is really stunning. There is a large hall of prayer at the Monastery’s ground and this location is called Odisha’s little Tibet. These Tibetan refuges moved here in 1960 after the Chinese invention into Tibet, and made their settlement with the aid of local government. Cultivation, growing fruits and livestock are the primary sources of income. In many houses you’ll get to see corn storage.

3. Taptapani :

This a hot water spring with a temple. The water believe to have some medicinal property. Many people come to take a dip into sulphur water and throw coin to the water with their good wishes.

DAY 4,

You can either visit Gopalpur or Rambha or you can end this trip here. If you want to continue then continue reading.


Gopalpur is Odisha’s famous sea-beach. This location is on the Odisha and Andhra Pradesh border. Gopalpur is essentially an old town in the harbour. While at Gopalpur, you can visit the light house, the sea beach and the old fort.

Rambha :

A stunning tourist destination alongside Lake Chilka. From here, you can take a boat ride on the chilka lake or enjoy the lovely chilka lake by sitting next to the lake.

Petrol Station at Daringbadi

There is only one petrol station at Daringbadi. The fuel station is located on street Ladapanka. Yet keep in mind that they do not accept cards; they accept cash only.

Total Approximate budget for Daringbadi trip

Daringbadi can be cover with in a budget of ₹8,000. There are many budget hotels, and there are plenty of affordable places to eat.


You can find many affordable budget hotels starting with ₹300-500 for dorms or a double bed decent room with AC will cost you from ₹1200 – 1500 for a night. There are also Government Rest houses known as Yatriniwas will cost you approx ₹2000 per night with foods and other stuffs.

Food :

For Breakfast you can have typical odia delicacy. An Average cost of a Thali will cost you approx ₹150.
